St. Mary Zhu Wu is a lay martyr who gave her life defending the church and its priests during the Boxer Rebellion. Wu stood in front of Fr. Leon Mangin and held her arms out to shield him from the attack of bullets during an invasion in her village. Her moment of heroic sacrifice was bolstered by a lifetime of Christian charity.
